For all the faults people can find with all the sharing that happens on social media, there is an upside. The best stories on social media are the ones where people join together to help one another or fight for a common cause. In Poland, three-year-old Olek Szymanski was diagnosed with a rare form of eye cancer called retinoblastoma.
The only doctors who could treat Olek were in New York at the David Abramson’s Clinic. Olek’s his parents couldn’t afford the trip or the treatments. The family had raised a third of the funds, but the total cost for the surgery was a staggering $126,000. Then Olek’s mother reached out to Piotr Malachowski.
This summer during the Olympic Games in Rio, Malachowski, a Polish discus thrower won the silver medal. Watch the video below to see what happened next! You won’t be disappointed! Malachowski is a true Olympian and humanitarian!
