In Gainesville, Virginia, during the TNR program (when homeless animals are caught, sterilized and released back into the street), an unusual kitten was found. After she was decided to take her into a shelter, people noticed that something was wrong with the kitten. The kitten was given the nickname Gaia (Gaia).
Initially, Gaia looked like an ordinary little homeless kitten, she had fair hair and was very thin, she was found far from a group of stray cats and her mother was not around. On her body were found damaged areas, as if left from claws and teeth.
Susan Spaulding of the National Kitten Coalition decided to take care of the kitten by herself. According to her, Gaia was about three weeks old and her wounds were treated, but then something worse started.
In this case, none of the veterinary tests could not detect what the kitten is sick, and Gaia, meanwhile, quickly lost weight, she developed severe diarrhea and, accordingly, dehydration. The kitten quickly became sluggish, and then she began to drop hair on her face.
Within a week, all the hair from the face of Gaia fell out and she looked like an alien. Then the hair began to fall from the belly. But Gaia did not give up, she was given medication to strengthen immunity and she started eating solid food. Her mysterious illness lasted two weeks, after which Gaia began to slowly recover.
My resident alien…polydactyl and bobtail…actually not bobtail, but short little tail with a tiny corkscrew at the tip! Sorry about the mess…was getting ready for her bath and spa treatment when I saw this and did not want to pass up the photo op! Gaia is finally feeling better. She came in the first time I posted with a gash in her left side; we found a corresponding puncture wound on the right side that had scabbed over and had a large abscess…jaws or claws had definitely gotten her before she was found all alone during a TNR project. She has been struggling with fever, diarrhea, weight loss and lethargy with no definitive diagnosis…we finally put her on the aggressive fading kitten protocol….I think she is finally getting well and back to normal! PS: she has one of the worst cases of "food face" I have ever seen. Julia Signa, can you let Rick know she is doing well?

Veterinarians did not know, because of what the kitten had hair from the muzzle and abdomen, but it has been some time since then and now Gaia is young and almost fully recovered kitty and fur has already grown.
